Characters main conflict in the novel and how they deal with it...

Miles Ryan, the main character in this novel has just introduced the main conflict of what Ive read so far. His conflict consists of his wife, Missy dying in a hit-and-run accident two years ago and having to be an only parent to his young son Jonah. He has been trying to be the best father that he can be to Jonah but being the only one has been a real struggle for Miles. Miles thinks that if he trys to bring a woman into Jonahs life Jonah and himself will live more happily together. For Jonah not to have a mom is something Miles does not like to have. Miles actions so far to this conflict have shown how good of a person he is. He does everything on is own and still manages to father his son. He is very interested in finding someone to share his life with after a very long recovery to what had happened to his wife, and has already started this with a girl named Sarah Andrews.

A Bend in the Road

I chose to read A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks. Nicholas Sparks is know to write great books.
Many of his books relate around a love story. I am the type of person who is interested in reading love story type books. Many of his books have a good story behind them, some even have slight twists to engage you more in the book you are reading. I feel like i am going to enjoy reading this book. Hopefully it will inspire me to read more of his books in the future.

Fahrenheit 451 Theme

A theme that relates to Fahrenheit 451 includes: In the wrong hands, technology can be dangerous. This is shown very well in the first section of this book. Most of the ways technology is used has many ways of being dangerous. One way this is shown is on page 17, this says,"Maybe you took two pills and forgot and took two more, and forgot again and took two more, and were so dopey you kept right on until you had thirty or forty of them in you." This specific quote shows how having the ability to keep pills on you can be very dangerous. People can make bad decisions being able to have them and use them for the wrong purpose. In the book this quote is relating to Mildred and how taking so many pills can be dangerous and even lead to death. Through out the course of the entire book we are going to see many more examples that have to do with this specific theme and a few others.

Blogger Reflection

Blogger Reflection Assignment

In my opinion the blog post I completed on Monday, November 4, 2013 titled Marylin’s Divorced Parents was my best blog post this trimester. I feel like this because I took what the characters in my book are going through and related it to something in real life such as having divorced parents. After relating them to each other I took the reasons why they are similar situations and told why I understood what they are going through. My example included the fact that I have 2 half older siblings that had to go through the exact same thing so I have seen the things they have to do because their parents are divorced. In my book this example goes to Marylin and her younger brother Petey with having divorced parents.

Moving on to English 1B I have many goals for myself. Some of my goals include making sure I get all posts done the week they are supposed to get done as well as the comments we are supposed to be keeping track of. Another goal I have for myself is going to be making sure I read more often so making blog posts will be easier to do and I won’t spend too much time on the reading as I would coming up with good blog posts. A goal I have for myself in the writing part of my blogs would be to go more in depth in what my blog posts are about and what I am trying to say about my book. Having a more in depth blogger will make my English reading and writing more efficient. I hope to peruse these goals as well as areas of improvement for my next trimester in English.

Marylin and Kate Again

After being away from Kate for so long Marylin has been interested in other activities such as her poetry, writing , being a candidate, and now even boys. When Kate sat next to Marylin on the bus ride home one afternoon things started to go crazy. Kate started by asking why she didn't know about the boy Marylin's been talking to or why they haven't seen each other in a long time. While Marylin on the other hand was worrying all about Matthew Holler the boy she's been talking to because she caught him flirting and sipping school to be with another girl. Having not seen each other things got out of hand and they both went home in a angered and upset mood.

Marylin's Parents

As I am reading The Kinds of Friends We Used to Be I am noticing all the things Marylin, one of the main characters doesn't know about her parents. First when Marylin was trying to make up and find something for a Halloween costume, Dad had came in and was telling her how he knows how to sew and knit from when he was in theater as a teen and decided to help her. Marylin also found out something new about her mom. When Marylin was listening to music and writing poetry one night Mom had came in and was listening as well, when the song was over Mom knew the singer and said that she had growing up listening to the artists Marylin had liked to listen to as well.

Student Government Representative Canidate

Running for Student Government Representative was hard work for Marylin. Having her assistance make sure to provide posters for her and help her campaign was a lot to ask for. Marylin also needed to put together quality speeches to tell and provide for her classmates in order for her to win by getting voted for. Marylin being all stressed out in the process at least had her best friend Kate to help and guide her the way. Family was also a huge support for Marylin's running. Without the support and help she got, Marylin would be in a lot lower position than she is now on the first couple days of running.

Marylin's Divorced Parents

In my book I have found a resemblance in Marylin's life style and the life style of many teens and children these days including my older half brother and older half sister. The problem that is in both of these scenarios is dealing with divorced parents. Marylin and her younger brother Petey are in the situation with having divorced parents. They go through things like obeying both mom's and dad's rules, making sure they take clothes back and forth from each house, and still have a daily routine themselves. Examples I just listed are things my siblings had to go through and still do and it wasn't all that easy nor fun to have to keep switching which house your at for the week or what you pack each time you go back and forth. I see and understand Marylin's and Petey's struggles of having divorced parents.

Creative Writing Club

When Kate decided to join the Creative Writing Club at school she pictured many people like herself to sign up as well. That didn't seem to happen though. Many different kinds of people signed up and went to the meetings. Ones who wore all black Kate had said and ones who were somewhat like herself. Kate thought that since she had just started writing lyrics of her own being apart of this club would benefit her writing and maybe her guitar playing skills to. When Matthew Holler, a cute boy as Kate's school, who was also at the Creative Writing Club meeting when Kate was , got  caught starring at Kate, she had a whole new perspective of the club and what she was about to be apart of.

Kate

In my book many things have been going on that will lead to the reasons why Kate and Marylin will no longer be friends. They are turning into total opposite people and have total different interests. Kate is very into her guitar and writing songs. Her first so called "Album" was named after her dream country boy Dallas. She thought that since she was writing songs about someone she dreamed of having, one day that special someone would appear.

First Day Of 7th Grade

As I am still reading about Kate and Marylin's relationship I am noticing some very different kinds of people. While Marylin is nice she still has very many mean and self centered friends "The Cheerleaders," as they are portrayed in my book. Even though Kate is good friends with Marylin she cant stand being around Marylin's friends. On the first day of there 7th grade year Kate and Marylin have a very big difference in what they want to wear. Kate says that wearing a t-shirt, jeans , and her combat boots is just her style. While Marylin has to match what all the other cheerleaders are wearing, a red and white stripped shirt to be sportive of there school colors. I can predict that sometime soon in the book Kate if going to get sick of Marylin and her friends and Marylin will do the same with Kate.

Follow Up

In my book so far Kate and Marylin, the two best friends, have talked a lot about what they like to do and what they like to look like. Kate is more of the tom-boy type. She is very into playing guitar and thinks that the only type of style/shoes that goes with playing guitar is Combat Boots, preferably black. Marylin has not been talked about too much yet in the book but I do know that she is supposed to be the complete opposite of Kate. The complete opposite of Kate's character would by the typical girly-girl. I image her being very into clothing or shopping and fancy shoes instead of Kate's style of Combat Boots.

As I am still reading The Kind of Friends We Used Be I am really interested in how it is going to turn out. The two so called "Best Friends," have a lot of differences. One likes everything to be perfect and is more girly. While the other one has a total different style and is into playing the guitar. I think that the two friends are going to get into more and more fights about which style is better later in the book, but as of right now they are just getting used to the way they both like to dress themselves and the things they each are interested In.

The Kind of Friends We Used to Be

The book I am reading is called The Kind of Friends We Used to Be by Frances O"roark Dowell. As I am just beginning this book I can relate to the fact that when best friends drift apart, all things bad do happen from past experience. In this book I think that the best friends will go through many harsh times fighting and arguing through everyday problems, but in the end they will become friends again. This book can relate to the world today becuase many friendships go through rough times. Even though they have two very different styles of clothing and interests, real friends shouldnt  have a problem with their friends clothing or the activities they do.
